Five are being held by the police due to the theft of 200 million, native in Mkuranga NMB Bank, one is Aliyokuwa Polis protect Bank That

Five people, including a National Microfinance Bank (NMB) employee, have been arrested following a recent bank robbery of more than TZS 200 million at the bank’s branch in Mkuranga district, Coast Region.

According to Coast Regional Police Commander (CP), Jafari Ibrahim, four of the arrested people are workers of a private security company that was responsible for transporting the money from NMB Bank House in Dar es Salaam to Mkuranga.

The police commander further said one of the apprehended persons, who is the NMB employee (names and position withheld), is still being interrogated by the police officers, as investigation continues.

Three bandits equipped with a Short Machine Gun (SMG) are said to have killed one police officer and left two injured on June 26, before taking off with more than TZS 200 million at NMB Bank Mkuranga branch.

The robbery took place a few minutes after the arrival of the cash delivery van from Dar es Salaam.

The murdered police officer was not on duty on the day of the event, but was on his way to the bank for a night shift before he met his death.

Two other people were injured in the scuffle and were rushed to the hospital. However, they have since been released from the hospital after getting better.
